There are a lot of things to do in Page, Arizona. The city of Page is a great place to stay because it is near so many great destinations. If you plan on staying in Page, Arizona, you will want to make reservations in advance. This town is a perfect spot for tourists to stay and the spots in hotels fill up fast. It is hard to find a place to stay during the summer and early fall months.
When you think of Arizona and the Southwest, you may think of empty land with not a lot to do. While there is plenty of space, there is also a lot to do. Many destinations involve nature and hiking. There are also different museums and local restaurants to try. So if you are not an avid hiker or nature goer, do not worry, you can still enjoy your trip to Page Arizona.
Here are some of the best things to do in Page Arizona:
The City of Page Arizona;
Before you visit a city, it is a good idea to do some basic research about the city. This way you know what to expect, how to get around, and how to spend your time. Luckily, we have done the research for you and have the important information for you.
Page is located in Northern Arizona. When we say Northern, it is close to the border of Arizona and is near Lake Powell. It is also close to Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Glen Canyon, and other national parks and monuments. As mentioned before, the town fills up during holiday breaks and summertime. The town has a population of around 7,500 so it is fairly small.
The city is still developing so there are new hotels and places to stay to keep cool. Since it is still a desert area you will want to be prepared for the dry heat. There is not a lot of snow during the winter months but in the evening the weather can get a bit chilly.
Things to do in Page Arizona Area: Antelope Canyon:
One of our favorite destinations is Antelope Canyon. These slot canyons are a gorgeous site that also provides amazing pictures for any social media account. Antelope Canyon is located on Navajo land so you will need a tour guide to see the slot canyons.
The canyon is split into two main canyons, Upper Antelope Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon. The Lower Canyon is less expensive to visit but there are stairs, making it harder to access for the elderly and the disabled. For those that want to visit the canyons, the upper canyon is the better option for those that are older or have physical disabilities.
Our best piece of advice for any visitor, get your tickets in advance. Tour groups fill up fast during the summer months. Whether you choose the Upper or Lower Falls, book well in advance. Several months should be enough time, but we also suggest booking the year before your visit.
Lower Antelope Canyon:
We had to put Lower Antelope Canyon on here because at Dixie Ellis we specialize in Lower Antelope Canyon tours. Our professional staff is passionate about giving you the best tour of the Lower Canyon. We prioritize the safety of our tour groups to ensure you have a great adventure.
Our company offers several different tour options for Antelope Canyon. We have our regular Lower Antelope Canyon tours but we also have kayaking tours. These kayaking tours allow you to kayak from Lake Powell into Antelope Canyon.
Lake Powell:
Lake Powell is a manmade lake that is nestled between Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. It is a reservoir that intersects the Colorado River and San Juan River. It is a great place to stay to go boating or enjoy the water sport of your choice. A fun, popular choice for lodging is boathouses that are available to rent. This is a great place to visit if you want to relax and enjoy some water.
Horseshoe Bend:
Horseshoe Bend is a great place to go and see some wonderful sites. The hike to this site is about ¾ of a mile. It is an easy hike that can be done by most people who are in good health. Horseshoe Bend is also a manmade site but that does not take away from the breathtaking view. The name gives away the shape of the river, a horseshoe shape that is a once-in-a-lifetime view.
There are two ways to see Horseshoe Bend, car and air. Car is the most popular option because it is cheaper and allows you to get on the ground and hike to the site. Flying in is going to cost more and usually is only 30 minutes. Depending on what tour you choose, you may fly in a helicopter or an airplane. You can choose what tour you want if you are partial to a helicopter or airplane ride. Be sure to find out where the flight begins and lands and make plans accordingly.
There is another way to experience the river and that is by floating. If you are visiting for the first time or aren’t an experienced river floater, you will want to take a tour to float the river. This is a great way to go if you are looking for some adventure in the great outdoors.
Glen Canyon:
This canyon is carved by the Colorado River and surrounds Lake Powell. The area of Glen Canyon has a lot of acreage, over one million acres. When you think of Glen Canyon you may think of the dam. While the dam is a great site to visit, there are also a lot of other things to do in Glen Canyon.
Since the canyon has so much land, there are many different spaces and places to explore. There are trails that you can visit, bike, hike, and drive. Since there are rivers, you can also go fishing and boating. There are also ranger programs and guided tours that are available to the public.
Glen Canyon Bridge:
This is one of the main attractions when people think of Glen Canyon and for good reason. The bridge is half a mile long. You can drive over the bridge and you can also hike over the trail. The bridge goes over a dam and there is little to no shade. This means that you will want to go in the early morning or late afternoon so it is not too hot. To get into the Glen Canyon area, there is a 25 dollar fee. This fee is usually paid when you drive up to the area entrance.
Things to do in Page Arizona itself: visit John Wesley Powell Museum:
This option is definitely for anyone who is not an avid hiker or wants to get away from the hot weather for a minute. We listed this on our list of things to do in Page Arizona because it is a nice museum that explains the history of the area well. This museum is not in Page Arizona, it is located in Green River Utah.
The museum is a little over a five-hour drive. Do not go out of your way just to go to this museum, unless you really want to see this museum. It is best to see this museum when you are up in the area around some of the other monuments.
If you do decide to go, be sure to check out the history and science exhibits as well as the temporary exhibits that go on display. The town of Green River is pretty small but if you see a stand selling watermelons, get one. Green River is famous for its juicy watermelons. If you can’t find a stand in the city of Green River, keep your eye out for a watermelon stand in the surrounding areas.
Hiking:
Yes, there are a lot of places to see that do not require that much of a true hiking experience. There are plenty of trails to hike and explore for those who want a more natural hike. A popular hike that everyone should go on at least once is the hanging garden trail. It is a great trail that ends with a stop at a garden. The trail is about one mile long so a little shorter but worth the visit.
Rim View Trails and Cathedral Wash Trailhead are also great trails if you are looking for paths that are longer than half a mile or one mile. There are also several trails on the Navajo Nation park that are nice and scenic. Depending on how much time you have you may be able to check out several of these hikes during your stay.
